Targeted Intervention project funded by TANSACS
Targeted Intervention (TI) projects funded by the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS) focus on preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS among high-risk groups such as sex workers, injecting drug users (IDUs), men who have sex with men (MSM), and transgender people. These interventions are designed to provide comprehensive care, support, and treatment services to these vulnerable groups to reduce their risk of HIV transmission and ensure better access to health services.
Major components of TI project typically include:
- Outreach Services: Engaging with high-risk populations to provide information on safe practices, health services, and HIV testing.
- Behavioural Change Communication (BCC): Promoting safe sexual practices, condom use, and harm reduction strategies through peer educators and community mobilization.
- Health Services: Offering STI screening and treatment, HIV testing, counselling, and referral to anti-retroviral therapy (ART) for HIV-positive individuals.
- Condom Promotion: Ensuring the availability and use of condoms through distribution and education to minimize HIV risk.
- Community Mobilization: Strengthening community-based organizations (CBOs) and involving the target groups in project planning, implementation, and monitoring.
The objective of this project has created an enabling environment for reducing HIV prevalence, ensuring care for affected individuals, and enhancing the overall health and well-being of these communities.
